If you want Nova to announce satellites by name, a satellite name sound file must be present.  You can record new ones or edit the files that are provided with Nova.

Satellite name sound files are organized like this:

  • All files are located in the [installation folder]\Sounds\Satellites folder.

  • All files are named like [Catalog number].WAV.  For example, the International Space Station's official catalog number is 25544 so its satellite name sound file is named 25544.WAV.

Example: In a typical installation, the Space Station Alpha sound file will be:

C:\Program Files\Northern Lights Software Associates\Nova for Windows\Sounds\Satellites\25544.WAV

The Sounds folder is organized like this:

…\Sounds\AOS            The phrases “rising” and “is rising” used for AOS announcement

…\Sounds\TCA            The phrases “approaching” and “is approaching” used for TCA announcement

…\Sounds\LOS            The phrases “setting” and “is setting” used for LOS announcement

…\Sounds\Noises        Beep, buzz, siren, etc. sounds that are listed in the drop-down boxes

…\Sounds\Planets       Planet names

…\Sounds\Satellites    Satellite name file formatted as [catalognumber].WAV.
