If Nova for Windows' internal FTP function dialed your modem to place it online,
it should hang up after the download is completed. (On the other hand, if
the modem was already connected when Nova began the download, it will remain
connected.)
If Nova for Windows fails to hang up the telephone after downloading, you should check the following settings in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0, even if you do not use I.E. for anything. Believe it or not, I.E.'s settings override other Windows settings.
Begin at I.E.'s main menu and select Tools, then Internet options. From there, select the Connections tab:

Select Advanced from the Dial-up settings box and you will see:
Check the box Disconnect... as shown above.
