A corrupted satellite database usually becomes apparent during updating of Keplerian elements.  One symptom is "hanging" during the update procedure.  Users sometimes resort to reinstalling Nova in an attempt to correct the problem, only to find that the problem persists.

Here's why: When you uninstall a program under Windows, files are often left behind. Windows does this so that files that you have created or modified (documents, spreadsheets, etc.) are not lost when you uninstall the program that created them.  Nova creates files as you you use it, such as its satellite database.    Uninstalling Nova will leave those files behind. If you subsequently re-install, those previous files are still there. If one of those files was corrupted, then you might be back where you started.

There are two solutions to corrupted a satellite database file:

  • Main Menu/Kep. Elements/Rebuild database.  This attempts to strip the database down to the bare bones, often removing the sourece of errors.  However, it will also remove most of your satellites so you will have to re-populate the database by updating Keplerian elements afterwards.
  • If that doesn't work, then you will have to uninstall Nova after all.  Be sure to delete the Nova for Windows folder entirely before reinstalling.  By default the Nova folder is
