There are two steps to adding a new satellite to Nova.

  • First, Keplerian elements must be added to Nova's main satellite database.
  • Second, The satellite must be added to one or more Views so that you can track it on the screen.

Step 1
Keplerian elements, which are required for calculation of the satellite's position, may be acquired from many sources.  We like Celestrak, but other sites such as AMSAT and OIG are also popular.

When Nova reads a Keplerian element file, all new satellites are added to its main database automatically.  Here is one way to do it (there are other ways too):

  • Download a file containing the new satellite's Keplerian elements.  Other elements may also be present in the file.
  • In Nova, go to the Main Menu/Setup/Satellites
  • Click on the button.
  • This will open a window for updating Keplerian elements from a file:

Select the Update button and specify the name of the file that you downloaded.

When Nova reads the file, all new satellites are added to its main satellite database automatically.

Step 2
Go here for the procedure for adding the new satellite to a View.
